I love the pastor’s imagery of taking our campfire out into the community, and we have begun doing this in the Rawls Place potlucks, getting involved with the teen center, and caroling at the Wright Center. In last month’s leadership retreat in the brainstorming process there was an idea to create “bumpers.”
Bumpers are places and things where people bump into New Creation Church. Maybe these are expanding the meditation path with a labyrinth, a children’s rhythm band, or building a new building to house children’s ministries. In thinking about these bumpers I thought of some new imagery.
In addition to taking the campfire out, we need to imagine spreading the wagons so there are large spaces between them that allow people to come and go freely and so the light of Christ can easily be seen in the middle.
How do we accomplish this? Not by doing things in the same ways. Not by doing the same things and expecting a different result. Being a big Monty Python fan, I love the line, “Now it is time for something completely different.” Your leadership team will be attempting to facilitate these changes and would welcome all and any of your ideas.
Last month I promised to do a monthly thank you as part of my article. This month it is included in pastor’s article, but will return to mine in June.
Peace be with you, Rick
