NEW CREATON CHURCH: A New Kind of Church (part 3)
Posted by: jcarlson on Jul 28, 2006 - 02:05 AM
New Creation Member's Blog You have been filling in the rest of the sentence – what is a new kind of church – with great enthusiasm. Here are some of your ideas already in action:

A new kind of website: www.newcreationchurch-sj.org.

A new kind of worship

A new kind of outreach

Read on for more details on each of these.....

A new kind of website: www.newcreationchurch-sj.org.
Our web site is being connected into our daily lives more closely. A new feature is a link for the monthly newsletter, so we won’t clog up your email with a huge file. We will merely email you a reminder when the new newsletter is available. The weekly “Letter from an Apostle” of the congregation, which is shared during worship is being featured on our blog. Not only will we continue the book group, but we are expanding the list of books for recommended reading. You may add to the list anytime. And don’t forget that we get a commision every time you link to Amazon through our site to buy your books. In the very near future we will be providing a podcast of my sermons, so you can listen to them if you missed the service, or re-listen as much as you might want. There is exploration into providing the whole worship service on the web site, audio only right now! This whole venue of communication is a very new and emerging way of connecting to the “spiritual but not religious” crowd.

A new kind of worship: “Reality worship” happens here every Sunday, where the “real” Jesus Christ is experienced. The Word of God is spoken, and a relevant discussion and real life application are provided for our real lives. The music reflects Christianity around the world and through the ages, and welcomes anyone who would like to offer their gifts in praise to God. The Sunday worship service is continuing to emerge. The new seating arrangement has provided a wonderful enhanced sense of community and fullness. The singing is livelier and more of you participate in the discussions, and make the message more relevant to your own lives. I continue to invite suggestions for film clips, and need help in editing them for use during worship. Our resident artist returns monthly to enhance the visual senses in worship – thanks Jonathan.

A new kind of outreach: Invitational Outreach is the theme for this new kind of church during the summer and fall. Each month there will be at least one invitation event, connected to special worship events.
  • A concert & ice cream social on Saturday, August 26th for all the families in the neighborhood and in your neighborhoods.
  • On Sunday 8/27 we will invite our friends and neighbors to return for a special “Students and Teachers Blessing” ritual during worship.
  • Musicpalooza, our annual sharing of God’s gifts of voice and music is showcased on September 29 & 30, with a reprise during worship on Sunday, October 1st.
  • The second annual Pet Blessing will be the center of our attention on Saturday, October 14th.
  • November brings a variety of International events with an African focus:
  • .... Sunday November 5 there will be a speaker from Asante Ministries, just back from a mission trip to Tanzania.
  • .... Saturday, November 11th The New Life Band from Tanzania will offer a fundraising concert for their ministry with African youth and their school they are building.
  • .... Sunday, November 12th our annual International/Fair Trade Bazaar will feature hundreds of hand crafted, fair traded, international items for Christmas gift shopping with all the proceeds going to World Hunger. And The New Life Band will lead the worship service.

December plans are being formulated as I write. Plan on the annual youth Christmas Pageant, a Blue Christmas meditative service, Christmas Eve with Ruthie, and a wassailing worship service.

All of these invitational events provide opportunities to connect friends, neighbors, family, the stranger to experiences of Jesus in a “new kind of church”. We are taking the fire and the table out, as well as offering “bumpers” for neighbors to connect with this new kind of church. Mark your calendars, invite, and help make New Creation Church a new kind of church.

Care for others has been revitalized and enhanced. On August 6th we will be sharing a BBQ & Bingo with the folks at Rawl’s Place senior low-income housing, next door. This housing reflects in a small environment an incredible diversity of nationalities and languages, which tend to isolate the tenants from each other.

The “Mission Bucket” is making its debut on August 6th. The “bucket” will be sitting in the center of our sanctuary for your loose change or dollars for a designated charity. During August and September we will be focusing on Second Harvest Food Bank for your support. A representative from Second Harvest will share their outreach during worship on August 6th with a video and presentation, and we are scheduled to help with sorting again Saturday, November 4th. During October and November the mission focus is on World Hunger, and Stand with Africa. (much more on the flyer in this newsletter).

The new long range planning teams are making plans for anew kind of future. Stay tuned, plug-in, and join the Holy Spirit on the journey of a life-time!

    Pastor Anne
