On Sunday July 27, we met in small groups during the service and each group composed a prayer around a specific topic. Topics were: Justice, Ending Hunger, Stewardship of the earth, Children of the world, and Peace. These prayers were written down and are now included here...
A Prayer of Justice
God of Glory, today we lift to you a need for justice in the world, justice for all who are citizens of dictatorships, that the hearts of leaders will be changed to have compassion for their people. We pray also that the education of children in the world will improve and eliminate teachings of hatred and prejudice. We pray also for strength of our own hearts to live to promote justice.
A Prayer for Ending Hunger
Lord, we pray for the end of world hunger, we pray that we are always mindful that there are millions of people all around the world that are hungry. We pray that we will increase our efforts in assisting to end world hunger by giving to Second Harvest, ELCA Hunger Appeal and local ecumenical efforts. We pray that our world leaders will address the issues of hunger in their own countries. In your name we pray, gracious God.
A Prayer for Stewardship of the Earth
Dear Lord, may we as one community realize that we have responsibility for our earth. May we know that we should protect and not use and abuse our earth. May we all be aware of our surroundings. Starting with the small children; help them become aware of the importance of not littering, and know the importance of recycling. We are thankful that our country has become aware of how to protect the earth. May China see this light; that they pollute without realizing it. May we all become more like Brazil who as a country work on their own to protect their country.
A Prayer for the Children of the World
We pray that all children can grow in a world free of hunger and fear. We pray that parents will love and ground their children in faith, guiding them into happy productive adulthood. And that a child can find love and support in their family environment – not turning to gangs or other destructive behaviors. Gracious God, hear our prayer.
A Prayer for Peace
Heavenly Lord, we pray for peace in conflicts around the world, Iraq, Israel & Lebanon, Dafur, Africa, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan , and India . Thank God for helping us to be well and strong over the years. Thanks for peace in our world locally. We trust in your grace in hearing our prayer and solving these conflicts. In Christ’s name, Amen.
