Well, this will be my last report as president. It has been a pleasure to work with this team and we have accomplished many things. New Creation has been busy though out the past year and will continue to move forward on projects that we have planned.

NEW VISITORS
-- Rick Voss
Sunday, July 9th we were favored with over 3000 visitors at church. Unfortunately they were of the six legged and winged variety. A swarm of bees made their home in our small magnolia tree. I called a beekeeper from a list given to me by the Santa Clara Beekeepers Association and Wayne came and got the swarm on Monday evening promising them a good home.
It got me to thinking, why isn’t it that easy to get the two legged human visitors to come to our church? I think we have had only two visitors in the last four months. That is sad! We are great people! What is wrong with our invitational skills?

2006 SYNOD ASSEMBLY
—Rick V.
Glenda and I reluctantly agreed to the 2006 Synod Assembly. It was the weekend of our 45th wedding anniversary and I have come to believe the assembly meetings are politically managed to meet the agenda of the Bishop and Synod administrative team. This year the Holy Sprit blew a breath of fresh air through the assembly on Saturday night as we worked to pass a 2007 Synod budget.

I love the pastor’s imagery of taking our campfire out into the community, and we have begun doing this in the Rawls Place potlucks, getting involved with the teen center, and caroling at the Wright Center. In last month’s leadership retreat in the brainstorming process there was an idea to create “bumpers.”

The Spirit equips each believing Christian with gifts and skills, and opens doors of opportunity to use them in witness and service to other people. Christ stressed love, honesty, justice, diligence, active caring for others, and reconciliation. Our societies need Christ’s kind of reconciliation more than eve. Reaching people with the gospel message is the most important aspect of this ministry of reconciliation. The other part of a reconciliation ministry is that Christ liberates us all to live in solidarity with God and each other. New Creation has been called in mission to invite those without a church into God’s family, nurture all people with God’s love, serve within the community and send people out to serve others. Everything we do should reflect our mission. How will we answer that call?
